Home Renovation Considerations

Home Renovation Considerations

When you want to have a home renovation, there are a few things you need to consider before you begin. It’s true that renovations are both exciting and stressful. Our team at Orange Contracting want to go over a few things you need to think about before you renovate your home.

Budget

The very first thing you need to figure out is your budget. This is going to dictate everything; from materials to what you actually can afford to renovate. Here are some budget considerations:

-What can you afford?
-How much money do you need for the renovation you want to do?
-What is the ROI of your investment?

Each of these are distinct factors you need to critically think about.

What can you afford?

Your financial capacity is the amount you can afford. Whether you have been saving up or need to get a loan to help. You need to understand the financial limitations you can handle and work with.

How much money do you need for the renovation you want to do?

This relates to an estimate of how much the renovation will actually cost. To get this estimate, you can talk to a contractor. Their estimate is usually based on the size and scale of the project, along with what materials you want to use.

What is the ROI of your investment?

This is usually a big factor when someone is planning to sell their home after the renovations are complete. The ROI (return on investment) is the money you can get back after fronting the cost. Some renovation will make your home more appealing, prompting buyers to spend more money on buying your home. Most of the time, people can make back the money they used to have the renovations done. Making it so they are not in debt for very long.

Selecting a Contractor

This is an important consideration. You are trusting whoever you choose with the renovation of your home. You want to make sure they are reliable and able to deliver the results you want. Our team at Orange Contracting, for instance, has been in the renovation business since 2014. We are customer focused; making sure to listen to every requirement, getting the job done on time, and within the set budget. We are here for our customers at every step of the way, this includes the design, selection, and renovation process.

We even guarantee our work for one year past the completion date.

Available Space

The next thing you need to consider for your home renovation is the available space you have to work with. This can mean starting in the kitchen or living room. These spaces usually have some extra room that can be created if you are looking to make either or both bigger. Perhaps an open concept between the two is possible? But if you have a smaller home, there might not be room to expand and there might not be anything that can be done about that. Which would mean that a renovation might not be worth it. You also need to be careful not to cram things together. For example, if you are adding an extra bathroom or bedroom, don’t try to fit them into an impossibly small space just to say you have them. If the space is too small, it’s not appealing. Opt to have one room with space instead of many rooms with no space.

Work with an Interior Designer

Before working with an interior designer, make sure to think about what your design style is. Having a vision of what you want will help the interior designer come up with things you actually like. This allows you to outline things you want to have vs things you don’t want. If you’re having trouble coming up with things you want, think about the needs of the household. Professional interior designers can also provide suggestions. The design style you want can even be incorporated into the entire house. This can look like a particular colour throughout. Planning out a colour scheme will help keep your focus cohesive.
